Motorola’s best selling budget phone is the G series which brought back the sky-high green arrows for the American Giant and now the upcoming Moto G8 which was leaked previously is going all bezel-less, while the other variants of the Moto G8 that’s the Moto G8 Play is now reported to arrive with a MediaTek Chipset.

However, this isn’t any low-end chipset from MediaTek, the reports suggest that Moto G8 Play will be powered by a MediaTek P70 or a P60 Chipset which are pretty high-end in MediaTek’s books and upper mid-tier in terms of general comparison with Qualcomm.

This MediaTek Soc that’s is rumored to be powering the Moto G8 Play is easily comparable to the likes of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 or with the 670 in terms of processing power and GPU rendering as well. Plus, it also comes with its own AI tricks with a 6 core APU.

MediaTek P70 Specs on Moto G8 Play

  • Cortex-A53,  Arm Cortex-A73
  • Clocked upto 2.1GHz
  • 12nm process manufacturing
  • AI-enabled and
  • GPU -> Mali-G72 MP3 clocked at 900MHz or 850MHz in some cases

Based on the 12nm manufacturing process it’s also pretty power efficient and will ensure long battery life for the Moto G8 Play which will be again rocking a massive 4000mAh battery.

Why MediaTek for Moto G8 Play?

Now the fact that this is using a MediaTek chipset is more of a cost-cutting from Motorola’s side as the American tech-giant doesn’t want to drop on the handset’s in-hand quality feel and look, so you will get premium materials instead of plastics around everywhere. On the other hand, you’re still getting a better upper mid-tier Soc, compared to say a lower-tier Qualcomm Soc.

So, this is evenly balanced for a Moto G8 Play which will be the cheapest member of the Moto G8 family, while the G8 Plus and higher variants will rock a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 and higher chips when they arrive.
