Motorola is currently pushing out a new update for its newly released Moto G6 Play the base variant of the Moto G6 family and this latest update brings the June 1st Android Security Update. The firmware version number for this latest security patch update on the Moto G6 Play is OPP27.91-87. And as per the changelog, you get the usual Stability improvements and a couple of bugfixes at the mainframe code level here and there.
The update is over the air and is seeding currently in Mumbai, India and it first popped up on my Moto G6 Play at night 10:45 PM and most users in India shall also start receiving the update soon. Moreover, you can also expect the more premium Moto G6 to get a similar treatment in this region as the Moto G6 Plus is already receiving the same update in Europe, while in the US the Moto Z2 Force gets the same update as well and it is also expected to reach to the Indian shores pretty soon. But for now, the Moto G6 Play is getting it.
Also, remember that before you download and install such updates make sure you got enough battery remaining at least 50% or more. And it is always recommended to download such updates over Wi-Fi rather than mobile data if you have a limited plan. Furthermore, the update is currently seeding in Mumbai, India and might take some time to show up say in other parts of the country and also, international G6 Play users shall also start seeing this latest security patch in the coming weeks.
As such updates slowly cover the globe in phases covering one region at a time, so please be patient and keep checking for the update manually by going into the Settings bay then About Phone and from there just Tap on System Software updates. With that said, looks like Motorola might get regular with updates after all. Let’s see how it manages the upcoming Android P 9.0 for its Moto devices.
