Talking about the basics in 2018, the display is a TFT screen with a qHD resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. The processor offered by the South Korean giant is its very own home-grown Exynos 7570 which is a quad-core chip clocked at 1.4GHz based on Cortex-A53. The processor is accompanied by just 1 GB RAM, as you’d expect from an Android Go smartphone. The chipset is pretty power efficient & the battery provided isn’t large enough to get out more juice from it, but it is sufficient to go along with the hardware considering the Tech Giant targeting the markets of developing economies like India, Brazil, Malaysia, Indonesia & some more in the Asian sub-continent because consumers in these countries mostly opt for an $80-$100 smartphones as an affordable option.
Moreover, LTE support on the Galaxy J2 Core is offered at Cat 4 150Mbps speeds. The prime reason would be Android Go especially being optimized for such low hardware & apparently Android Go has provided Ultra data saving feature to reduce the data usage on a day-to-day basis. Also, Samsung claims that 2600 mAh battery will last for the whole day keeping in mind that the optimized Oreo-based Android Go edition has especially designed power efficient or you can say resource efficient Go-optimised apps which provide the extra storage for the user to store pictures, videos, etc by apps taking less space to run.
Though in a press release Samsung had mentioned ‘more storage capacity to enjoy your phone’ which seems to be disappointing looking at the insufficient 8 GB storage space on Galaxy J2 Core. Only the real use results will tell about how much space is saved with the Android Go edition to be optimized as such to provide that valuable extra storage in such a low storage module.
Samsung J2 Core Price and Availablity
The Korean Electronics giant had stated that the Galaxy J2 Core is going to be sold online in Indian & Malaysian markets from 24th of August & then reach out to the local brick & mortar shops sometime later. The price for the Samsung Galaxy J2 Core is tagged at INR 7,690 ($110 US) by Amazon India which is not an aggressive price considering the specifications this phone comprises as compared to Xiaomi Redmi 5A which is priced aggressively at INR 6,999 even after being operated on a fully beefed up original Android OS & including a powerful processor, bigger battery, three times more RAM & a larger storage capacity.
It is going to be tough for Samsung to give Android Go a true justice which only time can tell. However, there’s a chance that this will get the next Android Go version update that’s is Android Pie Go version, while the Redmi won’t receive any updates other than MIUI ones.
