Motorola has always been on the forefront when it comes to updates at least for its flagship devices but the track record for budget and entry-level devices has gone downhill, with the Moto G5s plus still waiting for official stable Oreo update. But at least it is getting the Oreo 8.1 update which is the latest one for now. But first, we will take a brief look at some of the new features that come with Android P 9.0 Update. The android p is still pending an official name, while it has now reached by the time of posting this its 4th Developer Preview stage.

List of Moto Z phones to get Android P 9.0 Update

The modular Motorola Moto Z3 series launched this year is the first contender in the queue to get the Android P 9.0 Update which is expected to arrive by the end of this year, followed by the Z3 Play series next in the line which will get the soak tests by December 2018 and the first rollouts will begin by the end of Jan till the end of Q1 2019 ends or as we know Motorola takes its own sweet time to deliver a stable update so it might also end up by Q2 2019.

Now coming towards the Moto Z2 Force, well this might get the Android P 9.0 Update within a similar timeframe or before the Moto Z3 Play, that’s by Q1 2019 or by mid-Q2 2019. However, the Moto Z2 Play has to come over a long journey and might have to wait as long as till Q3 2019 till the time the update shows up, considering it got Android Oreo a couple of months ago.

However, updates for the carrier variant of the Moto Z2 force and the Moto Z2 Play as always be delayed and will arrive after a month or two after the unlocked variant gets it.

The Moto X4 on the Android One platform will definitely get Android P 9.0 this year that the perks of staying on the Android One Program. However, the standard models might get it next year in Q1 or Q2 of 2019. Older Moto X Pure editions and Moto X Style have completed their update cycles and are no longer eligible for the Android P 9.0 Update.

Now as far as for the Moto X5 is concerned that device is reported to be canceled or it might be the one with the new One power moniker. We will find out on Motorola’s special event at its Head Quarters in Chicago this year.

This is a new totally brand new breed of Motorola branded phones which are rumored to be part of this year’s Android One program from Moto’s camp. And are still pending an official announcement yet and likely to come this fall, but lets still wait and watch what happens on 2nd August in Chicago at Motorola’s big event. Motorola phones Android P 9.0 update list would be incomplete with this new comer and we will learn about this new Android One line by this fall.

Motorola One Power is the American brand’s first device to get the latest Android Pie 9 Update, even before it’s flagships which will be soon following after soak tests start.

As Motorola has slice one update cycle for the moto g series now, the premium budget titan is now left with only one year of a major Android software update and the latest Moto G6 line-up will be treated with this new flavor of Android P 9.0 update. But will further continue to receive security updates for the second year for sure.

With the Moto G6 Plus getting it first in Q2 2019, closely followed by the Moto G6 standard edition in the start or mid of Q2 2019. However, the little Moto G6 Play’s future could run into ambiguity but we hope that the little G6 Play model will endure and get the update in mid-2019 for sure. Motorola in the past with the G4 line-up did update the Moto G4 Play to Android Nougat from marshmallow, but that was a long journey.

Motorola phones Android P 9.0 update for the Moto G6 Play could be a controversial one for now, as it might arrive very late or not arrive at all, but we keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.

The Moto G5s Plus is excluded from the list as we are not very confident on whether motorola might provide the Android P 9.0 update to it or not. Because the American giant already made it clear that only one major update for the Moto G from now on. While the new president said that they will improve on updates. So, till the official lists comes up we shall just wait and watch what’s included in this, till then this is the best you can get.

These phones mentioned above either belong to the entry-level segment which nowadays hardly receives any love of significant Android updates or have already completed their two year Android Updates cycle. However, we feel that the latest Moto E5 series should at least be given a chance for one major Android update and we hope to see how the story develops for this, but Motorola has already made it clear that Moto E series now won’t receive any major Android upgrades, but will continue to receive Android Security updates.

As move closer to the official Stable AOSP release of Android P 9.0, all major Android OEMs will start posting their official list of phones that will this newest flavor of Android. We will keep you updated on what’s the status about the Android P 9.0 from Moto’s side, in the coming months.
